Excellent! Would be a one word review of Mr Hawkins. He listens attentively at the consultation stage; he devotes time to the consultation (despite a busy waiting room) and he gives concise but understandable explanations of the surgery required. This 'attention' remains throughout the whole process - consultations; pre-operative; post operative and finally a month or so down the line at the routine post surgery check up.

I was referred to Mr Hawkins after being informed I had breast cancer , from the very first appointment I had with him he filled me with confidence, by being very informative , understanding of what I wanted and never felt as if I was rushed into making any decision . The morning of my operation 20/01/2016 he came to speak to me and my partner and made us both assured and confident everything would be ok. Mr Hawkins and his team done an amazing bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction . I would recommend anyone who needs breast surgery of any kind to contact this surgeon. A big thank you to all involved in my care and after care !

I was diagnosed as having precancerous cells in my left breast for the second time in two years. The first time December 2012 was also in Swindon but I was seen by another consultant at the time, very good and reassuring man, I had surgery and 3 sentinel nodes taken out. After that 4 weeks of radio therapy. January 2015 I had the same result. Mr Hawkins advised having a mastectomy as having had previous radio therapy and the recurring precancerous cells could have a negative effect. He answered and listened to all our questions as my husband has always been with me. Gave us options and plenty of time for reconsideration. I had decided from the first moment that I wanted reconstructive surgery immediately after the operation, which was in March. Now I it is all in place and doing well I went in on my own as my husband had to take a call, the first thing Mr Hawkins said as I approached was: "Where is your husband?" Which was so thoughtful. He always has time to answer every question and makes sure he answers them fully and that you have understood. I now have to make the decision if I want a nipple reconstruction or not, seeing him in two months time.

Dr Hawkins was the nicest, honest and professional Dr I have ever met. He provided me with my options and gave me very clear expectations to allow me to make a decision. I was not pressured and was allowed some time to consider whether or not to proceed with the surgery. I felt very comfortable with Dr Hawkins throughout and he was able to reassure me immediately prior to my operation. It is rare that you get to meet a busy NHS doctor who treats you like his only patient at the time. I felt capable of asking as many questions as I felt necessary and I received clear honest answers in a way that I could understand. What was even better was during my check up, the clinic was running behind in time and due to not being able to get Childcare, I had my 9month old baby with me who Was overdue a feed, with the permission of another patient, Dr Hawkins saw me out of turn so that I could feed my daughter. It's the little things that patients really appreciate. Thank you so much for helping me and I am so pleased that I am no longer in any pain.
